Above is a personal letter. This type of letter is effective, in a way to catch up with someone or to say hello. It is always enjoyable written to you by a parent, family member or friend. However, it is hard to be serious and talk about professional things in a personal letter.
This letter was found on a sticky note. It was left by a roommate to her other roommates to let them know she had left for the weekend. This letter is effective, because it gives all the basic information her roommates would need. she says she has left and that she won't be back until Monday. But beyond that it doesn't say where she went or who with, so it does leave the roommates a little bit in the dark.
